Slip Covered Room is a site-specific artwork made for an exhibition that took place in a Montreal rooming house over a period of 48 hours. In this exhibition artists were each given a room in which to create an artwork. Each room was approximately eight by twelve feet in dimension. This small space represented the entire living area of the previous inhabitant.
For Slip Covered Room I created a giant slipcover that covered the floor, walls, and furniture in the apartment. The slipcover was not intended in the conventional manner of protecting the furniture in the room from day-to-day wear and tear, but rather as a way of protecting the inhabitant from the dismal environment of the rooming house itself.
