Still Life/Nature morte for Kent

This artwork was made shortly after my brother's death in 1987. It consists of original flim negatives my grandmother took as a young woman that were reshot onto super-8 film. The people in the photographs were friends, neighbours and family, many of whom looked directly into the camera when having their pictures taken. The material on the film loops was organized by the number of the people in each frame. As the film loops were projected the people in the photographs continuousy appear and disappear, merging into one another, endlessly re-enacting the cycle of life and death, presence and absence.
